WHAT IS A POKER TOURNAMENT?

A poker tournament is a contest in which a specified type of poker is played using non-value tournament chips. The goal is to win your opponents’ chips, thereby eliminating them from the competition. Tournaments are structured so that each player starts the game simultaneously with the same wagering limit and amount of non-value chips. The betting limits increase at a predetermined pace.

Each morning event lasts approximately two to four hours.

Each evening tournament can last from three to five hours.

When a player goes “all in” (wagers their last chip) and loses that hand, the player is eliminated from the game. Tables are consolidated as players are eliminated until there is only one table remaining. This is referred to as the “final table.” Every player who makes it to the final table will win some portion of the prize pool. In larger tournaments, the last two tables will share in the prize pool.

Play continues until one player wins all of the tournament chips and is declared the “champion.”

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO ENTER A TOURNAMENT?

Each tournament is a unique competition and requires a fee for participation. The fee is allocated in two ways:

1. The buy-in portion goes to the prize pool
2. The entry fee is the amount charged by the house to stage the event and is not included in the prize pool.

WHAT CAN I WIN?

Each tournament has a minimum of one place paid and up to as many as 18 places paid. The number of places paid depends on the number of entries and the type of game being played. The value of individual prizes is based on the buy-in portion from each entry plus any added money.

In tournaments that feature re-buys and/or add-ons 100% of such purchases go into the prize pool.

WHAT ARE RE-BUYS AND ADD-ONS?

In events that feature re-buys and/or add-ons players have an opportunity to purchase additional chips when they have gone “all in” or their chip count drops below a set amount. Re-buys are offered as unlimited or one-time options. Add-ons are only offered at the end of a re-buy period. Re-buys and add-ons allow players to remain in the game longer and significantly increase the value of the prize pool.
